The weird poles at MTR station

blog[17 Jul 2013]
The escalator at the Kowloon Tong MTR station platform used to be our mystery for years.

The weird thing is not on the escalator, but the metal poles in front of the escaclaor.

We know that the poles are actually buffer to prevent too many people rushing to the escalator at the same time. However, it really makes no sense for the poles to be at 1.7m tall…

A normal pole’s height is 1m high, and the height really does not affect its effectiveness in buffering. Anyone know the reason behind? 1 reason I can think of is maybe I am too short, the poles are tailor made for the titans.
